Long Term Care at Marian Manor

Founded in 1954, Marian Manor is a non-profit long term care facility served by the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm. Located in South Boston's historic Dorchester Heights area, the Manor offers 282 residents skilled care, and 11 residents are served in its residential care section. Applicants needing rehabilitation or convalescence are admitted to the Manor's short-term unit. These residents most often return home or back to independent or assisted living facilities. Applicants requiring long term care are admitted to one of the Manor's long term units or may transfer there from the short term unit if they require ongoing care. Marian Manor residents are encouraged to maintain a life of wholeness. The facility strives to provide for the physical, spiritual, psychosocial, intellectual and recreational needs of the residents in a homelike environment, which respects their individuality. There are different types of accommodations at Marian Manor in order to provide for the various needs of the elderly. Residents with dementia may be candidates for one of the Manor's secure units. The facility is certified for Medicaid and Medicare, and some resident care is financed by other types of insurance or private payment. There is also a small rest home unit, which accepts SSI. Marian Manor has a comprehensive rehabilitation department, staffed by therapists from the Norton Rehab Group. Many residents coming to the facility after hospitalization for orthopedic procedures have been rehabilitated and are able to return to their own homes. Other services offered by outside consultants include hospice care, geriatric psychiatry, podiatry, dental, ophthalmology, and dermatology. Residents are encouraged to maintain their highest possible level of physical and cognitive functioning through the efforts of medicine, nursing, social service, food service, recreation and pastoral care. Their environment is kept cheerful, clean and well maintained by the housekeeping and maintenance departments. There is also 24 hour security presence.
